Photo Exhibit on the underwater cultural heritage of the world

In the framework of the Extrabudgetary project “Capacity building, implementation actions and increase ratification schemes for the 2001 Convention for the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage in Latin America and the Caribbean” financed by the Spanish government, the Regional Office for Culture for Latin America and the Caribbean of UNESCO is organization a photographic exhibit of large size photographs depicting emblematic sites of the underwater cultural heritage of the world.These large-size, high resolution photographs will cover the fences of the Castillo de la Real Fuerza, located in one of the most visited plazas of the city and bordering the Avenida del Puerto, popular for strollers and tourists. The exhibit consists of 30 photos and explanatory panels on the UNESCO 2001 Convention for the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage emphasizing on the underwater cultural heritage of the Caribbean and Latin America. The museum housed in this emblematic fortified castle of the colonial period, is dedicated to the study of navigation, underwater archaeology and maritime history. The outside fences of the castle have served in the past for exhibits that have been met with great success. This photo exhibition on selected underwater cultural heritage sites illustrates the beauty of the traces of human existence covered by water. From ancient shipwrecks to underwater caves, the exhibition is an insight to the diversity of the underwater cultural heritage and its astonishing condition of conservation through the centuries of time, or even millennia.

Meeting of the Working Group of the Operational Guidelines for the 2001 Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage (24, 25 & 26 September), Paris


The Meeting of the Working Group of States Parties on the Operational Guidelines for the 2001 Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage will be held at UNESCO Headquarters (Room IV, Fontenoy building, 7 Place Fontenoy, 75007 Paris). 
In accordance with Resolution 5/MSP 2 and Resolution 8/MSP 3, the members of the working group with the right to vote are: Bulgaria, Cambodia, Croatia, Ecuador, Grenada, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Italy, Lebanon, Mexico, Nigeria, Portugal, Romania, Saint Lucia, Spain, Tunisia and Ukraine. 
The representatives of other UNESCO Member States and Observer Missions may participate as observers without the right to vote and may take the floor subject to the consent of the Chairperson.
The Working Group will examine the draft Operational Guidelines of the Convention.  Simultaneous interpretation in English, French and Spanish will be provided.
